F. Gaviña & Sons, Inc. to Sponsor "Hecho a Mano," A Collaborative Exhibition Presented by the Los Angeles Art Association & ANACAFÉ, Guatemala's National Coffee Organization

Los Angeles, December 14, 2010 — Peter Mays, Executive Director of the Los Angeles Art Association announced that F. Gaviña & Sons, Inc., makers of Don Francisco's Coffees Family Reserve will be the platinum sponsor of Hecho a Mano (Made by Hand), a multi-media, cross-cultural exhibition presented by ANACAFÉ, the 90,000-member national coffee board of Guatemala and the 85-year old nonprofit arts organization. He explained, "We are honored to have the support of F. Gaviña & Sons, Inc., of Vernon, California. The family-owned company has been a leading producer of high-quality coffee for more than four generations spanning more than 130 years." Don Francisco's is the leading coffee retail brand in Southern California and ranks among the top 10 nationally. "Producing fine coffee is very similar to creating objects of art — both require great skill, patience and dedication. Our company is proud to present an exhibition that showcases these parallels. We hope that Southern California's art enthusiasts and coffee-lovers who view Hecho A Mano will gain a greater appreciation for the workmanship that goes into growing each and every bean," commented Leonor Gaviña-Valls, Vice President of Marketing.

Hecho a Mano will be presented in conjunction with Los Angeles Art Month. The show will feature objects created by Greater Los Angeles-area emerging artists and explore issues of quality workmanship and cultural heritage. Also included are selections from ANACAFÉ's 50th Anniversary exhibition titled Inspired by Coffee that debuted at the International Coffee Organization's World Coffee Conference in February 2010. The collection showcases images of Guatemala's coffee-growing regions by photographers from Belgium, Guatemala, Italy, Japan, France and the U.S. along with panoramic views captured by Anglo-American photographer Eadweard Muybridge in 1875. Ricardo Villanueva Carrera, ANACAFÉ's Chairman commented, "Producing coffee in Guatemala is a work of art taking place on nature's most magnificent canvases. We're delighted to share these images with L.A. area coffee and art enthusiasts." Idurre Alonso, Spanish art historian and curator at the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) juried the exhibition.

The Hecho a Mano VIP Preview takes place on Saturday, January 15, 2011 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at LAAA's Gallery 825 located on La Cienega between Santa Monica Bl. and Melrose Ave. Invited guests include Mr. Pablo Garc’a, Consul General of Guatemala and Guatemala's Commercial Attaché Mr. Rodrigo Guevara along with Los Angeles city and county officials, representatives from the Department of Cultural Affairs, art collectors, artists, members of the Southern California coffee business community and the media.
