Portfolio Artist Statement Online Information ![]() Pink Sprouts ![]() Kraftbox ![]() Kraftbox November 2010 Regardless of the forms they take, my art has always explored dichotomies weather it be narrative or non-objective. These have ranged from shifts in scale to changes in color, texture or form. Most recently, I have been creating artwork that contrasts materials as well as visual elements. The wall hanging sprouts are ambiguous. They are meant to evoke a strangeness, perhaps an unease at the same time draw one in to take a closer look. In other words, create a feeling of both attraction and repulsion. The one pictured here "Pink Sprouts" hangs in a corner and exhibits several contrasts or dichotomies.
My most recent explorations are more conceptual. This new series of artworks titled, "...the box that contains the space within the hands that crafted the box that contains the..." is an investigation into the act of making and the gestures of the hands as they work. The title is circular, never beginning nor ending. As the titles suggest, the boxes are handmade to contain the negative space inside the hands that created them. Additionally, the contrast of materials, dull, cheap and recyclable corrugated board with vibrant, permanent and precious ceramic extends the dichotomy. |
