In my work, I explore the intersection of what is planned and what happens accidentally in human experience, that is to say the nature of causality. Upon seeing a 4" x 7" broken piece of glass in an alley, I was taken aback by the beauty created by an accident. The broken pieces reminded me of glaciers breaking apart, and I started to think about causation in the world and in life — what is created by accident and what is calculated. Are these two forces of the accidental and willed action part of an overall design, or entropy, or perhaps an overall design that is chaotic? Is there coincidence/happenstance, or is all that happens in some way willed, even if subconsciously? Perhaps we ordain it to happen by visualizing it, voicing it, dreaming it — the law of attraction. There are no absolute answers, only questions.
