Portfolio Artist Statement ![]() Arch2 ![]() Archangel Master ![]() Into Infinity August 28, 2010 In my current work, I use one source image, a fragment, from which I create many different images. The array of results are often unrecognizable as originating from the same source. My references are small sections of black and white photos I've taken since childhood; the photo serving as a symbolic metaphor of memory. When I began painting twenty years ago, I used my archive of photos as a device to explore qualities of memory such as: dreamlike, foggy, vivid, dark, fading, fragmented, disturbing, distorted, etc., that mirror and convey the human sensory and physiological experience of memory and remembering.
Today I mix inks, and more often than not, use a roller instead of a brush to create these works on paper. By copying, enlarging, cropping, distorting and abstracting the original image, I transform image, memory and perception, allowing the viewer to bring his or her individual associations to the "finished" images. |
