LAAA presents ArtSpeak — LAAA's signature lecture and workshop series.

Artspeak career embedded workshops are specifically designed to respond to workplace readiness issues for artists. A core component of LAAA's ongoing efforts to support emerging artists, ArtSpeak programming raises local artists' aspirations by explicitly enhancing their career preparedness. Artspeak programs are especially instructive for those artists poorly served by the present system of gallery protocols and art world "politics".

ArtSpeak panel discussions with celebrated art professionals address issues pertinent to the current cultural landscape, as well as technical and business seminars for artists.

All ArtSpeak programming is open to the public.

Past Artspeak events have included:

  • The Art of Collecting: 4 Approaches
  • 7 Most Powerful Selling Secrets for Artists
  • Gallery and Museum Roundtable panel Discussions
  • Creating an Artist Website
  • The Online Artist Community
  • Private guided tours of LACMA and Gemini G.E.L.
  • Tour of Self-Help Graphics

About James Thegerstrom:
"I am excited to become a part of this great resource for artistic discussion and community building. After receiving my BFA from Otis College of Art and Design in 1991, I had to manage other priorities in my life before restarting my art career. Therefore I want the Artist Hash Sessions to serve participants of any experience in breaking new ground in their own artistic endeavors. My priority is to guide the Artist Hash Sessions so that, within the context of the topic, there exists an environment in which participants will be asking and answering questions about their art. I hope for this to serve as the catalyst for insight and development of artistic process and practices. I will use everything I have to offer to moderate a fun, relevant and encouraging Artist Hash Session and I look forward to seeing you there!"
