Dear Artists:
The advance of each calendar year presents a natural opportunity to reflect and measure the advancement of our mission to serve emerging Southern California artists. LAAA's successes in 2011 are a direct result of the community and opportunities we built together. LAAA's enhanced regional and national visibility in 2011 expressly advanced the careers of our emerging artists through a complementary stratagem of exhibition opportunities, career building efforts and public outreach.
Here are a few 2011 highlights:
- LAAA served over 400 artists of all media, presented 28 exhibitions at Gallery 825, 7 offsite exhibitions, 36 artists critique groups, 5 artists talks and 6 classes.
- LAAA's 2010 public art initiative was selected as one of the top public art works by Americans for the Arts.
- LAAA exhibited at Art Platform LA, The LA Art Show, The Beverly Hills Art Show and Photo LA.
- LAAA's international exhibitions included collaborations with Cultural Services of the French Consulate, Contemporary Art Ruhr and the Guatemalan National Coffee Organization.
- LAAA's celebrated Measure for Measure exhibition traveled to Harvard's prestigious Carpenter Center.
- LAAA's commitment to diversity, community outreach and serving all artists was again demonstrated by our Out There exhibition during Gay Pride Month and Equity for All Artists, LAAA's collaboration with the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.
- LAAA presents a curated selection of video artists at the Miami Beach Cinematheque during Miami Basel in December 2011.
Please print out and return the following renewal materials and help us to sustain our shared commitment to serving the needs of emerging artist:
Our Artist Membership dues remain only $250 per year (the same cost 5 years and counting), only costing you a fraction of the annual $800 plus that LAAA spends on each artist member. That works out to be less than $21 a month to exhibit, gain discounted or free admission to our career development programming, Gallery events as well as having your work viewed by some of the most important curators, gallery owners and art personalities in Southern California and nationally. As a charitable organization, all funds generated are directly channeled back into programs, services and advocacy for our members.
I encourage you all to renew today and take advantage of all the benefits available to our artist membership. 2012 is shaping up to be an equally important year with many exciting opportunities. We still have much work to do together to accelerate this important work of providing our artist members and the public with exceptional exhibitions, programs and networking opportunities. Please rest assured that we will be a part of that work each and every day.
With great regard and respect,
Peter, Nancy and Jade
