My current work “Woven Metal” explores the contrast between two components known for their fortitude and fragility; fiber and metal. Weaving wire creates a fabric that balances between textile and sculpture. The movement of the woven wire produces unusual patterns and texture that is unpredictable, unlike traditional weaving.
Taking this age old practice of weaving and reinventing it without permanent decisions or functionality gives me a sense of freedom. The spontaneous and informal interaction between the material helps me to create contemporary and provocative work.
