What LA Artists Need to Know

Control your career with an immersive 1 day workshop for emerging artists seeking to secure and maximize your opportunity for gallery representation as well as an exploration of non-gallery opportunities for emerging artists. 

Presented by the Los Angeles Art Association, a visual arts organization committed to the professional development of emerging artists for over 90 years.

Artists, gallerists and art critics reflect on initiating the artist/gallerist relationship. Topics include:

  • How do you know you are ready for gallery representation? 

  • Does the gallery program fit your artwork? 

  • How best to approach a gallery? 

These questions and more will be explored by our expert panel.

Get answers to your questions about gallery shows from 6 months prior to your opening reception and beyond. Panelists will discuss what you need to know to successfully mount and maximize your next (or first!) exhibition. Topics include:

  • How do I edit my body of work to create the best possible show?

  • What's a realistic budget for marketing and advertising?

  • How do I increase my chances of being reviewed?

Whether you're a first-timer or have some experience, "Show Savvy" will provide a thorough overview of the gallery show process.

This convening of local and international curators and artists explores non-gallery career paths for artists. Join us for a lively discussion on how these professionals identify and cultivate new talent, who their audiences are, and their particular relationships to the broader public. Our panelist from the worlds of Museum, Public Art and International cultural collaboration will share their expertise and counsel with our artist audience.
