Benjamin DeHart

Artist Statement

San Diego born artist Ben DeHart, using a process for layering multiple panels of varying sizes and materials, brings his modern abstract art to 3 dimensions. His broad palate and bold use of contrasting light and dark colors creates a feeling of motion causing the viewer to reflect on his subject matter, often of societal or environmental issues. Classically trained from a young age in acrylic landscape painting, plein air painting in oils, pastels and charcoal, he enjoys keeping his skills with these mediums sharp. Plein air paintings of various points of interest around California and beyond is an ongoing adventure.
His company, Dehart Concepts, is comprised of two smaller companies: Dehart Designs focuses on the hospitality industry, events and live art - Axiomatic Creative now handles his digital design, murals, 3D printing, digital sculpting, logos, film posters and storyboards. He has been in business officially in Southern California for 13 years.
Ben currently resides in Los Angeles and travels and works in the San Diego and L.A. area.

“The pandemic was a water-shed moment for me, the message I was getting from somewhere was, ‘You are right where you need to be. This is a time for serenity and contemplation, use it well.’ I spent a lot of time working on my paintings bringing them to a level of completion and quality I had only dreamed about. I even created two of my first politically themed paintings. Although I am cautious about my representation in politics, I felt it was time. I can’t wait to show everyone what I’ve been up to. ”
