Artist Statement

I was born in the hot, humid countryside of Sinaloa, Mexico. As a young boy, my life was spent outdoors in the lush greenery, escaping the sun by being amongst the roots and leaves of plants. I paint my memories, my dreams, my fantasies. My paintings are full of codes, full of words that dissolve on the canvas, meanings transformed into shapes, textures, and colors.

I show tropical rainforest, imaginary places, thoughts that remain after awakening from a deep sleep. I describe places that are in my mind, stories from my childhood, nightmares already forgotten. My paintings are a representation of happiness, joy, and hope. I also explore concepts such as; freedom, pain, loneliness, mystery and individualism.

In my painting I also want to express my interests in literature. I use the feelings that remained in my unconscious after having read books by Herman Hesse, Jean Paul Sartre, Juan Rulfo, and poetry by Arthur Rimbaud and Garcia Lorca.
