Artist Statement

I am a Los Angeles-based painter with an educational background in history and mathematics. This summer I began a series of paintings that highlight the diversity of the female experience that is historically overlooked and under-appreciated. The works in my Women and Traditional Geometries series combine minimalist female silhouettes with intricate and colorful patterns inspired by traditional geometries. Creating this series involves in-depth research into folk art and the roles and portrayals of women in ancient cultures throughout the world.

Another of my ongoing series is inspired by fairytale, folklore, and the supernatural. In contrast with the precise and measured methods I use in Women and Traditional Geometries, the Lore and Legend series is all about intuition, spontaneity, and letting go of strict definition. In our modern, science-driven world, it's becoming increasingly challenging to explore these profound and ancient aspects of the human experience. Crafting pieces inspired by these elements connects me with the cultures, locales, and belief systems that form the foundation of modern humanity.
