Art Palm Springs 2019

Gina Herrera

Los Angeles Art Association is proud to feature artist Gina Herrera at Art Palm Springs 2019 in the VIP lounge February 15-18, 2019 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
Opening night February 14, 2019

While serving in Iraq, amid the devastation of combat, Gina Herrera was moved by seeing miles of mountainous trash heaps. She viscerally experienced the global extent of the systematic destruction of the planet, exploitative, unsustainable, and perhaps worst, careless, unconscious, accidental. This led her to question her artistic practice: she began to build three-dimensional forms out of discarded and natural objects.

Herrera is engaged in an aesthetic and spiritual ritual to channel and honor Mother Earth, to seek connection and communion with a power greater than herself.  Herrera recently resigned my commission after almost 25 years of service, and this has led her to contemplate, transform and express the complexities of this specific part of her history in her recent work.

For more information on  Gina Herrera and Los Angeles Art Association, please call 310.652.8272 or email gallery825@laaa.org

Christine Kline

Christine Kline’s interest in art historiography has lead to the creation of an ongoing series of collage and assemblage pieces. Absorbed by the ideas that arise from the collective study of multiple disciplines, she is immersed in the ever-expanding conversations carried forth by the many artists and thinkers who have come before us and those presently among us. Kline's intention is to offer others but a singular perception of the world that might encourage reflection on interpretations or perspectives that might otherwise be overlooked.

Karen Duckles

Karen Duckles' new body of work American Daisies deals with the issue of gun culture in this country. The pieces utilize bullets, targets, rhinestones, and other items on framed wood panels. The assemblages tell stories about how we think about guns, and the issues surrounding gun violence. The beauty in the metallic bullets, the symmetrical targets and the sparkly rhinestones contrasts with the reality of the damage they can do and the sorrow they can cause
