Charlotte Tarantola

Artist Statement

Charlotte Tarantola (everyone calls her “Glitter”) has the unique DNA of a disco ball – she sparkles in both spirit and eyeliner.

Early studies in costuming, sculpture, lithography, textile & surface design, and fine art prepared her for school in NYC. The Fashion Institute of Technology taught her fashion technically, but her drag queen friends taught her about street and club style.

With her studio and plein air works in high demand, she continues to diversify, study and create. Newer disciplines include calligraphy and watercolor. Other projects on the horizon include a pop-up gallery, and organizing plein air workshops and art retreats. She is an avid participant in the global postcard exchange program “Postcrossing” and “Letter Writers Alliance”. Creating mailable art specifically for the recipient as well as entertaining the postal employees is a constant theme in the process.

Past group shows include “I like yours” and “LA en Rose” in Los Angeles. Upcoming shows include “Decent Dissent” in Culver City and an LAAA collaborative effort for 825 Gallery’s upcoming “vs.” show.

Travel, both near and far, feed Charlotte’s appetite and appreciation for the weird and wonderful. There’s no food she won’t try, and she likes to live life high/low. She’s as happy camping in the dirt as she is in a five-star hotel. She cherishes time at home with her cats and husband, has ridden a bicycle around Australia, and races Hawaiian outrigger canoes. Charlotte’s daily goal is to find the fun in everything, even LA traffic.
