Artist Statement
David Stewart Klein’s has always had a need to express something strong, volatile, fragile, fleeting using the image of the human body and face. To him that can be seen through the intimacy and vulnerability of a portrait, an argument of a couple, the strength standing or fluidly in motion. Klein takes his subjects and amplifies the compositional space with what is being represented, a fragment of his mind and the people that inhabit the world around him. Klein is not afraid to make sudden changes if necessary while painting and has a method of continually challenging his creative problem solving abilities with each new project. He uses colors in a refined, yet intuitive way. Klein aims to capture the essence of his subjects with the underlying belief that no matter their background, we all have something to say underneath our silence.
