Artist Statement
My paintings explore the cyclical nature of history and culture through the female perspective. I’m interested in the dissemination of knowledge, identity, and symbolism through the historic global trade routes. I use egg tempera, a technique that fell from favor in the West during the early Renaissance, to reference our culture's systematic rejection of the humanistic principles upon which the modern era was founded. I’m influenced by European artists such as Holbein, Van der Weyden, Memling, and Bronzino, as well as Eastern Art and imagery.
