Artist Statement

Textiles have the ability to hold moments and stories. My work uses fabrics to reach through memory to find harmony and healing. Collecting textiles and piecing scraps together, I use improvisational sewing techniques to create compositions that emerges from the trees, mountains, and coastal inspirations of my sketchbook into textile based paintings.

Color is a tool to be played with, grounded in memories of exploration and adventure. My work leans towards bright, harmonious color directions that expand from visual memories - places like the inside of an anemone, patterns on a shell or shades of green in a forest.

Living in coastal California, I know the way nature can heal broken places in our hearts. Nature demonstrates how brokenness can be present, but also beautiful - my art is a practice of gathering and mending broken pieces and textile waste into new, fragmented-yet-whole stories - a hope for what healing is possible with time.
