a go rightly let.

We Should Just Be Each Other

Sean Robert Gerberich

Artist Statement

My art is a deliberate exploration of the viewer's experience, aiming to slow them down and prompt self-reflection through the intensity of contrasting elements. I them down and prompt self-reflection through the intensity of contrasting elements. I play with the inversion of meaning, leaning into the greater paradox of stillness in motion. Intense, bold, and striking, yet precise, pretty, and intricate, my work is influenced by my studies in Psychology and Philosophy, manifesting in a manipulation of vision's natural mechanisms.

Detailed black pen on paper, and acrylics with spray paint on canvas are my chosen mediums, with a newfound embrace of color enriching my practice. Despite this, my heart remains loyal to the simplicity and strength of black and white. Texture is a driving force in my work, shaping impressions of physicality and life. I intentionally juxtapose heavy paint regions with the canvas surface, creating a navigable topography.

Accompanying the visual, my poetry serves as a linguistic parallel, anthropomorphizing imagery and fostering wonder. I embrace abstraction to leave the audience in a state of uncertainty, mirroring the curiosity of childhood. Art is a portal to our inner child, it allows for an ascent into abstraction, offering a departure from perceived reality. Through this journey, I aim to lead viewers on a profound rediscovery  of self, a departure from the familiar, to unearth the deeper vitality within.
