Artist Statement

These pieces are perhaps like reveries contained, translations of moments observed and beauty had… Perhaps a moment of changing light, or a random piece of sky caught framed in a window.. Perhaps they are thoughts of trees, stalks, leaves and a breeze, or walking at low tide.
Integrated, hand in hand, with these thoughts is the constant process of arranging and constructing painted wood panels and pieces. The  wood brings with it a solidity, presenting architectural edges, corners, and frames, often contrasted to a palette softened and muted.
This is formal work that involves the challenges and pleasure of composing, the consideration of movement, balance or stasis, and the analysis of color, line, and shape. It’s a process of interplay; a conversation exploring the juxtaposition of thought and material, subtraction and addition. When something unexpected and whole emerges then I realize I’m done.
