What LA Artists Need to Know
On May 3, 2026, we will examine strategies to sustain a career and generate income as a full-time visual artist. First, we will examine the practical tactics, logistical paths and disposition of the full-time artist. Next we'll explore grant opportunities and best practices for submissions for artists. Finally, we will explore non-gallery opportunities to generate income for artists.

9:30 - 11:30 am - ARTIST AS A FULL-TIME CAREER
Your goal is to sustain a career as a full-time artist? Are you ready to explore the practical implications that a ongoing career in the arts demands? This session explores different paths for exhibiting, promoting and securing income for your artwork as well as identifying goals and successful time management.

11:30 am - LUNCH BREAK. Please bring lunch or visit the local restaurants within walking distance.

12:30 - 2:15 pm: GRANTWRITING FOR ARTISTS
Seeking corporate or foundation funding for your artwork? Artists grants are limited and highly competitive. This "quick and dirty" immersion into grantwriting explores the best practices and expectations for successful grantees.

2:30 - 4:15pm - OTHER PATHS TO A CAREER IN THE ARTS
Galleries play an important role in the careers of many artists, but today's artists are finding other paths to success. This panel will explain that public art, corporate placements and art fairs are all viable career strategies for artists.
