Artist Statement

What do you notice when you slow down and get quiet?  This series of ceramic sculpture is based on looking deeply into the patterns and forms of nature that are all around us.  “Looking Deep” investigates the process of slowing down and really looking and appreciating the intricacies of the natural world. Form, texture and patterns found in natural systems of nature are my inspiration.  Chaos, order, growth and decay within nature are what interests me.  The finished forms are a result of an intuitive response to the direction
that the pattern takes.

Looking deep into nature sometimes means to face the truths of how the environment is being harmed by man’s actions.  “Fallen” addresses bee colony collapse while, “Melt” is a response to polar icecap melt.  Other pieces in the series are simply my reaction to the awe I feel towards the amazing patterns that the natural world presents.
